Roy & Louise
& Families

Southwest Florida (& Kentucky)

In July of 2008 we rendezvoused with Roy and Louise in Franklin, NC. Fortunately, their daughter Karen's vacation coincided and she drove over from Franklin, KY, to join us. We had a great time sitting around relaxing and catching up on what was happening in our families' lives.
We spent a full day driving the southern portion of the Blueridge Parkway. We got on at the very southern end at Cherokee and drove up to the crafts center just on the northern side of Ashville. Enroute we visited the cradle of forestry in America and had lunch at one of the Parkway restaurants. Early July is not too late to visit the Parkway. It's still cool (after all, you are in the mountains) and the flowers and foliage are in full bloom. You'll find some photos of the parkway on our Southeastern Grand Circle Tour 2008 page.
Here are some larger family photos taken during our time together:

Roy and Louise are doing very well, in good health and as active as ever. Although they had only been in the campground for a week, they had everything set up "just like home," as you can see in the photo below. They plan on staying there throughout the summer, returning to Sarasota in late September.

Karen and Dale's family is doing well also. Their oldest daughter, Deidre, has graduated from college and their youngest, Emily, is now attending David Lipscomb University. (That's difficult for us to imagine since the last time we saw them, they were "little girls.") Dale is considering doing some missionary work, but hasn't yet made firm plans or commitments at this point.
Two of our four nights in Franklin we stayed at the Franklin Terrace B&B. It is one of the most enjoyable B&B's we've ever stayed in. Without a doubt, they served the best breakfast we've ever had in a B&B. Just say to heck with the diet and enjoy it!
