The Hubbell Trading PostThe Hubbell Trading Post is located in Ganado AZ, which is 50 miles or so north of I-40 and about 30 miles inside the eastern Arizona border. It's a facinating place and is well worth the diversion to visit it. |
The Trading PostThe trading post itself is still active with various wares for sale. In addition to the general store section, there is also a jewelry shop and a Navajo blanket shop. Gorgeous items. This first page shows the store and the adjacent barns. |

Inside the store: It's an old trading post, but has lots of modern items.

Our tour guide said that Mr. Hubbell knew his customers so well, that when they walked into the store, he not only called them by name, but he began putting their order together because he knew what they always bought. Our tour guide in training is the young man on the right. He's headed to college at Sonoma in the fall.

The barn

An old buggy stored in the barn. It was amazing how much cooler it became when you stepped into the barn. Very nice, even on a moderately hot day.
|
Just like the trading post, this is still a working barn. There were two horses in stalls in the darker area to the left.
