People - The OldThe people of China were absolutely fascinating. On this page you will see some older faces. Many of those faces were seen in the park in the early morning. Older, retired Chinese are fond of gathering in the park in the morning with their friends. Some simply sit and talk, catching up on each other's lives. Preparing for prayers at the temple. There is an interesting story behind this ritual. Our tour guide told us that when one goes to the temple, one is allowed four prayers. For each prayer, one lights a small stick. But when one prays, one keeps one prayer in reserve, just in case. So, only three sticks are lighted. That is what this man is doing. He is holding three sticks en route to the temple. Our guide went on to say that some people are very greedy and they will light bundles of sticks, saying many prayers. Sure enough, we saw the greedy, who are shown below, lighting literally handfuls of prayer sticks!
