Shanghai-2: To the West

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping

We stopped at the silk factory where they make a variety of silk products. They gave a fascinating demonstration as to how the silk strands were harvested, but, unfortunately, they would not allow taking pictures.

silk painting
A finished, framed, woven silk painting. Again, we were not allowed to take photographs, but I couldn't resist sneaking in a hip shot. This particular picture is transparent, the same scene on each side, only reversed, of course. Some had different pictures on each side but they still had a transparency to them; I don't know how they did that.
shearing silk rugs
A lady sculpturing a silk rug. She's the master and gives the rugs their finishing beauty. Note the squares in the foreground that have not yet been sheered - realitively unimpressive.
